Robert Herbert has written several original papers on the discovery of the dinosaur footprints of the Connecticut River Valley. He also transcribed the correspondence between Hitchcock and Yale’s Benjamin Silliman to make it available to other researchers and written an accompanying introductory essay. In addition, he has published the only extensive work on the more obscure figures of James Deane, Dexter Marsh, and Roswell Field, all of whom deserve to be remembered for their effort in the once-new field of ichnology.
